DSR Calculator
Your Debt Service Ratio is the percentage of your gross monthly income that goes towards debt repayments. Banks use this number to decide if you can afford a new loan.
Your total salary before EPF, SOCSO, and tax deductions.
Total: RM 0.00
How banks use your DSR
- Below 50%: Comfortable zone. Banks view this favourably for all loan types.
- 50% to 60%: Acceptable for secured loans (home, car). Harder for unsecured lending.
- 60% to 70%: Most banks apply stricter scrutiny. Some may require a guarantor.
- Above 70%: Most Malaysian banks reject applications at this level. Some banks use 60% as the cutoff for unsecured lending (personal loans, credit cards).
Tip: Credit card minimum payments
Credit card minimum payment is typically 5% of the outstanding balance or RM50, whichever is higher. Banks will use this figure (not your full balance) when calculating your DSR, even if you pay more each month.
DSR = (Total monthly debt payments / Gross monthly income) x 100. This calculator provides an estimate. Individual banks may include or exclude specific commitments differently. Always check with your bank before applying.
